Random Act of Kindness…

I was working in the heat, tired, thirsty and hungry.  And a lady whom I had never seen before and did not even speak my language pulled out a grill and began grilling something in her front yard.  She fixed me an entire meal.  Before I knew it I was sitting on the curb enjoying a steak, hotdog, and an ice-cold beverage.  This was the best steak I had ever tasted.   It was obvious that she could not understand me when I tried thanking her for the food.  I have seen and experienced random acts of kindness before, but this one by far tops the charts in my book.  Completely made my day…

UNTIL… that evening I blew a tire on the way home from bible study.  I did not have any source of light as there were no streetlights, the car jack was junk and I ended up breaking it forcing me to lift up car manually by turning the jack lever with a pair of pliars.  For those who don’t know, manually lifting a jack with pliars takes FOREVER.  And to top it off, my cell phone had no service.  So I was alone, blind, tired, dirty and frustrated.  I ended throwing the jack into the woods after I FINALLY got my spare tire on.  The whole process was about two and a half to three hours.  I got home at one thirty in the morning and woke up for work at four thirty.  Completey ruined my evening…

Cool and Refreshing? Not so much…

Ok so I keep a small bottle of mouthwash in my car for those everday situations such as after eating or when I just feel the need for less stank in my mouth.  I got off work today at around four o’clock and hopped in my car for my lovely hour-long drive home.  I had just eaten so I grabbed this bottle of mouthwash and popped it open to take a swig.  Had I realized that this little fella had been baking in the heat all day, I may have chosen otherwise.    So I swig this mouthwash/molten-lava and immediately regret my decision.  In stead of spitting it all over my car I kind of accidentaly swallowed a bunch of it, which in turn caused me to cough and gag.  Let me tell you, gagging on mouthwash the temperature of the sun is no walk in the park.  It burns and slightly resembles being sprayed with mace given that at this point it was coming out of my nose and burning my eyes as well.  I will say this, on the bright side, I have learned a valuable lesson from my little mishap today.

Cross the line…

Though yesterday was time and today is way past due

Tomorrow very well and could be just too late for you

You know what needs to be and you see what is to come

Yet stand and stare so motionless is all that you have done

It has been drawn not in the sand but deep in all our hearts

The line that we all feel and know that crossing true life starts

I say all this to make the point that when you’re told it’s time

You’re on your knees in reverence on His side of the line

All that is man…

This post is going to be short.  I have noticed something over time that I want some feedback on.  Anytime I hold a door open for a lady and a dude happens to be walking behind them, I will hold it open for him as well.  What I have noticed is that If I am holding the door open, dudes will walk through the other door.  They will exert the energy to physically open the other door rather then just walk through the already opened one.  Or they will say thank you, but hold their hand out as if to catch the door when I let go, just so they can open it themselves.  What is that all about?  Comments?

Blast from the past…

So apparently there is a dress code at church-run basketball tournaments.  And apparently, I didn’t get the memo.  I thought the idea of my team wearing uniforms would be great.  I also assumed that we all would be matching.  I was wrong on both accounts.  Upon arriving to this basketball tournament, I realized a slight problem.  It appeared as if I was the only one dressed the way I was.  Not only from my team, but from the church.  Sure we had the Three Amigos who wore sumbraros and panchos but that still left me on a different page in the book of dress code.  I was wearing basketball shorts (Size kids medium), a basketball jersery (Size kids large), velcro sneakers, knee high socks, and of course a sweatband around my head.  So basically I looked like I was squeezing into a uniform that a ball player from 1969 would wear.  The word “squeezing” is an understatement.  The lesson I have learned from this is that I should save this sort of behavior for the costume parties, and dress accordingly at church events.  On second thought… I did look pretty good.  Who knows, maybe if I start dressing like this on a regular basis, it will catch on and be the next fad.

My sister invented time…

So I’m beginning to feel a pattern in life involving random strangers confronting me.  This time it was this extremely old lady.  Really, she was ancient.  She approached me as I was working near her yard and she decided that I needed to know something.  Apparently, I am her brother.  Yes, she and I came to america sixteen years ago from Germany.  Given her age and the fact that she looked quite certain of her statement, I just went along with it.  I just kind of nodded and smiled and assured her that I would not be digging in her yard or damaging any of her property (which is normally what people ask when they approach me).   After a few minutes or her ranting and upon realizing she was inching closer and closer to me, I went ahead and popped her bubble.  I told her that I could not be her brother and that I had never been to Germany.  She then replied, “Thats right, you can’t be my brother.  My brother is dead…  Well that makes me angry as hell”.  So I just smiled and went back to work, hoping she would wonder off and leave me be.  She did.  It worked itself out naturally.

Apparently coffee isn’t helpful…

So I stopped by 7-11 this morning to grab a coffee.  It was early and I was quite tired.  Anyways I’m not going to turn a short stort into a long one.  I was approached by an arab man who seemed quite upset.  He was rambling something in another language and i began to feel like he did not want me to get coffee.  Finally he spoke english, and I now believe he spoke (yelled rather) the only four words of english he knows.  “Coffee make bad sex, coffee make bad sex!”  I’m sure you can understand my confusion as to why this dude felt the need to save me from myself.  He apparently felt that I would ruin my sex-life by drinking coffee.  So I assured him that I wasn’t married and I didn’t really care if coffee did have such effects.  But he just kept yelling, “coffee make bad sex, no good, no good!” as I walked to the counter to pay, and even as I was walking out the door.  I must say, although stranger things have happened… this was up there.

Skipping church…

As you can tell from the time of this post, I should be in church right now.  I was in church, in fact I led worship just twenty minutes ago.  But I need to print out a few music sheets for worship tonight at Lakeside.  Right now they are printing and I figured I’d blog while I wait.  But the purpose of this blog is not to share with you my lack of attendance during the sermon, it’s to ask for prayer.  God is answering alot of prayers right now and alot has been placed on my plate.  I just need the drive and desire to serve Him with all that I have in anyway that I can.  Fortunately, His word says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  So I’m confident in God’s provision.  But any prayers would be appreciated.

I wasn’t swerving…

So last night I went to see the new Batman flick with Bryan and Todd.  It was amazing!  Everything about it was great.  We saw a small party in the parking lot which consisted of two guys drinking beers, smoking cigars, and rocking out to their tiny boombox.  But on the way home, I got pulled over!  The cop said I was speeding, swerving, and I had dead tags.  I don’t feel I was going as fast as he claims and I know I wasn’t swerving, but yes, my tags were very much dead.  So my tactic was to tell him how cool the Batman movie was to distract him from my offenses.  And yes, it worked.  He didn’t even write me up for speeding or swerving.  I do however, have to go to court in a few weeks to prove my tags are no longer dead, but once I show the judge my up to date tags, all charges will be dropped.  He was actually a cool pretty cool guy.

Yesterday I went in to work at six-thirty in the morning and I did not get home until three-thirty today.  Thats thirty-two hours.  I did however, catch a little over an hour of sleep in my company truck around midnight.  But otherwise it was quite hectic.  I don’t think i’ll be doing that again anytime soon.  Sleep, food, and showers are an everyday must for me.
